My introduction to this innovative and unique high school occurred as I served on our school's board of advisors in a volunteer role. I quickly recognized the unique educational value to student success that Yadkin Valley Regional Career Academy offers in providing a high school diploma enhanced with exploration of career pathways, development of problem solving skills, working as teams, and growing their personal professionalism.

Our school is unlike traditional early college models by allowing students to pursue a wide range of career pathways tailored to their individual interests and academic accomplishments. This achievement enables students to attend Davidson County Community College courses with the opportunity to earn college credits and even achieve the goal of an associate's degree awarded along with their high school diploma.

My own career pathway is very similar to what is offered to students attending YVRCA. After being displaced three times working over 30 years in the manufacturing industry, I chose to return to school and attended Davidson County Community College. I earned an applied science degree in biotechnology and accepted the position as Stem Cell and Tissue Culture core technician working at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, a world renowned biotechnology research facility. I am convinced of the critically important role this unique school provides for success of our students that will soon be entering a competitive and highly technical workforce.

I share a dedication and commitment to each student's success with the entire faculty, staff and administration comprising Yadkin Valley Regional Career Academy.
